I reckoned it was either a faulty spam (poor newbie spammer hasn't
worked out how to use their bulk spamming software yet) sent out with
a randomly selected "From" address that happened to be an address that
is registered on this mailing list, or a virus email with a similarly
spoofed "From" address and which was stripped of its payload by the
list software. If the PC used by a member of the list got infected,
it would be quite possible for the virus to find that member's email
address, the email address of the list, and possibly other members'
email addresses, on the infected PC, and so at least some of the
infected emails could find their way to the list address, only to be
stripped of any attachments and end up going out to list members as a
"nothing" email like the one that came through.
