Haven't heard of that one, Denise. Certainly the latest version of the HTML
specification, HTML 4.01, doesn't suggest suggest any such thing. From clause
11.2.1 "The TABLE element":
width = length [CN]
This attribute specifies the desired width of the entire table and is
intended for visual user agents. When the value is a percentage value, the
value is relative to the user agent's available horizontal space. In the
absence of any width specification, table width is determined by the user
agent.
Use of this attribute in the TABLE element is not even deprecated.
