i've also had that problem, and have found absolutely no way to fix it,
other than to make sure the text field and the over-laying css don't
coincide.  two band-aid approaches:  

1)  pop up a new window instead with no toolbars, status bar, etc.  
2)  put the form elements in a <div> and change the properties to 'hidden'
when your box pops up, and then make them 'visible' when it goes away...
this won't work in netscape, though.

let me know if you come up with something better...

I posted this one before but I don't think I phrased it well and it is
urgent as the page is due to rollout wednesday...

does anyone know anything about how this:
    there is a text field and when a css layer pops up as a result of a
mouse over, the text field does not clip and therefore shows through the
layer and the layers img.  This problem is occurring in netscape 4.7 and
earlier versions.   Maybe IE too, but the company uses netscape as a
standard...

is there anyway to fix this, or is it one of the bugs still to be worked
out in css?
