Also, I have discovered that the Intellimouse-type wheel common on many new
mice will scroll sideways if there is no vertical scroll bar on the window.
That's not an excuse or reason to allow horizontal scrolling (I agree with
what Michael says below) but I offer it as an observation.

In most cases horizontal scrolling IS a no-no... The exception to that
rule would be if the scroll is part of the intended design of the site.
If you MEAN for it to scroll that is fine, as long as it scrolls in only
one direction. If it scrolls by chance then it is kind of lame and dual
scroll make things had to find in the document.
