A few suggestions: Use BOTH an ALT tag and a TITLE tag in each IMG on the
site. The text should be succinct yet contain your top four or five
keywords, and can be identical for both the ALT and TITLE tags. Make sure
the page TITLE also uses the keywords. Make sure you still use META
description and keywords, and finally, you might want to put in some
"Visible" text at the bottom of the page (that would be below what would
normally display in a browswer window) that would contain a text version of
the information on your home page graphics. Make sure that text is visible,
though, since if you make it invisible by having it be the same color as
your background color, the search engines will throw it out as spam.
Comments containing text likewise are usually disregarded by search engines.

We have inherited support for a graphically intensive site. For example,
the home page has little text on it - or rather, the text is a set of
graphics elements which are displayed via JavaScript rollovers.

The customer wants to improve performance on search engines - however,
we see this as problematic given that there's no real copy on the page.
We could submit the subpages; however, as the home page establishes the
identity of the organization, we'd really like folks to be able to find
it.  Any suggestions on how to do this without utterly revamping the
home page?
