A better link would be

file://servername/path/to/file.abc

This is because different people on your network may mount what you know as
the "F" drive as different letters.

Also note, however, that if you have people accessing your network via
dialup, a file:// link may not work at all.

Try <.A HREF="file:///f|/intranet/media/files/file.zip>.  Oh, and please 
remove the period.  I used web based e-mail so I put it in there to try and 
prevent it from being read.
