Just end your img tags with a /> like this:

<img src="foo.gif" height="100" width="100" alt="" border="0" />

Leave the space before the / so you don't bust NN browsers. Oh, and make
sure all your tags and attributes are lower case and quote all the values.

And yes, I know it's a pain to retrofit all of a site's img's like this.
There doesn't seem to be an automatic way of doing it with a search/replace.
