here's what I know for screen captures on a mac:
Command + shift + 3 to capture the whole screen. (use control as well to
paste it to the clipboard)
to capture the active window:
command + shift + 4 (use control to paste to clipboaard)
Otherwise, there are several free apps you can download for the purposes of
screen captures. (try download.com)
