Normally, web engines use the 'permanently moved' error code to get the new
URL's and should replace the old url's with the new ones, without affecting
ranking.  However, they will slide back a bit in time since less sites are
linking to it.

Hi all,

Could you tell me how I can prevent this message from occuring. I 
have an .htaccess file to send the home page to another. Had to 
get a new domain name and       the old one is listed well in the 
Web Search engines. I don't want to use a Web Page and a refresh. 
I think the .htaccess file is slicker, yet somethimes when 
looking up the new domain name I see this.

The document has moved here."

You'll have to bite the bullet and accept the fact that you are 
now using a new Domain Name. Search Engines are going to pickup 
on this anyway and your current method could get your site (old & 
new one) banned from listings.

Although I'm not sure if you are using a "Rewrite" or "Redirect" 
within your .htaccess file, the message is absolutely correct -- 
which is another reason why Es are going to pickup on it. Why you 
get the message with the new Domain, depends on the method used 
and Server software.

I would suggest you create an Update Page (for the old page / 
site) and make it clear that a move has taken place. Then include 
a link to the new page / site. Courtesy would also suggest a 
Refresh tag of 15 - 20 seconds, but that is your prerogative. ;-)
