It actually all depends.  Just like mpg, mp3 isn't an original streaming
media file.  But the fact you don't need the file footer to start playing
already makes it so some companies (read Microsoft) have media players that
start playing as soon as a decent amount of data is in.  So the answer to
your question: use the latest (not necessarily greatest) mediaplayer.  I
currently run Beta 9.

Oh yeah, if anybody knows why my Media Players (MS) crash when playing
streaming .mpg's from a remote server (ever since I installed Premiere
6.5/Quicktime 6) I'd be interested to know a solution.  Don't have problems
with avi/wmf/asf.

without having some sort of audio streaming software on the server?  You'll
notice that if you click on any of the MP3 links now, you have to download
the whole song before you can listen.
