Need Some Ideas/Advice

We are currently making some design modifications to our Intranet.  We are
moving to a menu bar at the top of the page as opposed to the left-hand
menu.  In looking at other sites, I noticed another feature that could be
very nice for our users -- the "bread crumb" trail.  Does anyone have any
advice/thoughts/etc on how to create this dynamically or does each "trail"
need to be manually created.
