pop-up browser window when visitor leaves site.

We have a site that offers a service for $10.  If the visitor leaves the
site without signing up, we'd like to show a pop-up that offers the service
for free (we receive revenue from on-going use of the service as well, so
we're willing to do this).  We'd like to do a pop-up, like when you leave
the people.com site.  We haven't figured out how to detect the user leaving
and then get the pop-up to show up. 

Any suggestions?
