I do apologise as sincerely as I can. I didn't mean to put you down,
or anyone else. I caused offence where I didn't mean to, and I'm
truly sorry for that.
I began web design in much the same way as you, my dtp clients wanted
me to tackle their small websites, so I did. I started with PageMill
and learned as I went on and I haven't come very far compared to
everyone else here. Truthfully, I'd rather not do website
design/development professionally at all, even though I enjoy it; I'd
much rather earn my living at what I studied and trained for and love
- typography and book design - but the market isn't there any more.
The subtleties and intricacies of the craft and the recognition of
its value have been lost in the headlong rush for cheap, instant
results, and that saddens me. I don't want to see anyone's skill and
effort devalued in that way, whatever their profession is.
I really am very sorry I offended you.
