This might help. Quoting from Clause 5.11.3 of the CSS2 specification,
referring to the order in which these pseudo-classes are set out in the style
sheet:
"Note that the A:hover must be placed after the A:link and A:visited rules,
since otherwise the cascading rules will hide the 'color' property of the
A:hover rule."
