Kym (and all)

I had noticed that browsers cache in different (sometimes unexplainable)
ways. For me some of the NN4's and IE4's seemed to not want to reload HTML.
I would clear my cache and reload / refresh to no avail. It seemed to always
take 24 hours to clear out the problem regardless of how I set the browser
to compare the page (every visit, etc.)

One thing that did seem to work for me was to close the browser, manually
kill my temporary internet files through explorer (be careful!) and reboot
the computer. Overkill but it worked. I really haven't noticed that problem
recently and it probably only occurred with certain version numbers of the
browsers. If you have a 4.0 browser that you check your sites with (a good
idea really for checking your sites for older compatibility) you may
experience similar problems. Wish I could be specific on the numbers but
it's been a while.

Occasionally cached graphics as well would not reload. With Netscape I would
have to right click on the graphic and choose view image and then Reload
that "page" of just the image.

In the past year or so with the newer browsers I haven't noticed these
strange behaviors.

Currently I check out my sites in IE 5.0, IE 5.5, NN4.08, NN6 and I'm lucky
to have access to an old version of IE3.0. Oh and I also have recently been
using the WebTV viewer program you can download from their site (taught me
that I need to start specifying white as my default background color :)

I am considering doing some checks with Opera, but I really don't know how
many people use it, plus the company I work for pretty much targets the
consumer AOL/WebTV/Internet Newbie crowd.

Anyone have suggestions / links for other browser software for site
checking?
(though I really don't like using web based utilities to check my sites, I
would rather SEE with the eye what is going on - read as "how I screwed it
up").

Thank you for that...and yes, I have refreshed...it made no difference.

I didn't know about the meta tag deal tho...thank you...I'll add it.
Actually, it hasn't been a bad lesson in that I now have what is pretty
much a mirror image of my onsite directory on my hd so that everything that
is uploaded is in the right place to begin with. I've really only been
changing the img tag to reflect the correct directory but the less fiddling
I have to do, obviously, the better.
