Do keep in mind you are talking about UBB.Classic here - which is flat file
based and probably one of the only one that works without a database. (!)

However, they also have UBB.X, Opentopic, UBB.Threads (the one I'm using).
All use their own system and setup, and are way friendlier on server
resources than UBB.Classic.  Plus in comparison with most of the other
systems you've mentioned they are backed up by a large company that offers
true support.

Very sorry to tell that in our organisation we don't go for opensource
projects too quickly, as we've had terrible problems with that kind of
thing, even on reknown products that had a large number of users.  The only
open 'stuff' we're using right now is Linux with Apache, PHP and MySQL.  And
even then we're still facing some inconsistencies, although it's up to par
with paying, big-company products (which, I'll be honest, also have their
drawbacks and zillion bugs - just that you have someone to put pressure on
;)).
