I'd try the Peachpit Press computer books if you like visual books. I have
the Photoshop and Flash books and have found their detailed explanantions and
screenshots to be very useful. Plus, they are great for quick reference.
If you are learning JavaScript, then I usgges the JavaScript Goodies by Joe
Burns, which takes you through the ABCs with a lot of explanation and
exercises you can download from the book's Web Site. I do not recommend
JavaScript: the Definitive Guide unless you already have programming
experience.
As for design books, I'd love to hear what people recommend. Please let me
know.
