QUESTION - sending fields to a shopping cart?

Hi 

Thanks all for your input on my last email!! 

I have another question - I need to determine a product code based on user
selection to send to a cart i.e. a product no. is 00689, if a customer
selects size small, left-handed; code is now 00689/s/l , if size medium,
left-handed; code is now 00689/m/l. 

Any idea how this can be achieved with code??
