the only thing i've done like this is to write to a file using a java
applet.  i had a quiz that wrote the results to a flat file and then i
opened that file in excel and used the handy dandy excel wizzard to tell it
where to break the columns...  it all worked very smoothly...  seems like
you'd be able to merge the data into a word document.  let me know if this
route interests you and i'll see if i can dig up the code i used.

Hello list people,

I have an idea I would like to try out. I have an online form used to
evaluate a potential clients needs and gather company information. I
would like to send our sales team to the field armed with this form on
their Lap-Tops. They would gather the information and when finished and
submitted this form, instead of being processed to email, would save
locally, preferably as a Word doc. I can do it with ColdFusion, however
with the install of CF server on every machine, that would be a bit
overboard for this tiny addition.

This is part of an overall crazy sales system, which really works mind
you, that I have developed for our sales team. I have managed to take
over the existing Explorer.exe shell on their lap-tops, replacing it
with web objects, flash Javascript and HTML that fits into our entire
web theme all the while giving the user access to everything
Explorer.exe normally would. It's kind of like LightStep for those of
you who know what I'm talking about. This in turn creates a "Web based -
online" feeling without having to be online at any time. Everything
works great however this would be really cool to add, in place of the
simple word.doc we have now that can be edited in IE and then saved.

Any clues on how to accomplish this locally with only Javascript HTML or
the like?
