Make sure the matte color you chose when you went to 'Save for Web' either
matches the webpage's background color or background image.  The process of
creating mattes is different in 6 than it was in 5.5, as well.

If I've nailed the problem on the head, this is what you want to do:

1. (You may already have done this...) Create your text image in Photoshop
with no background layer (or throw the background layer in the trash)
2. Do 'Save for Web', choosing as the appropriate matte color.

Then if you want to use the same text image on a webpage with a
significantly different background color, make a new gif using a new matte
color.

Hello all:

I'm working on a new site that has various graphical text elements to it.
I'm making the text 
graphics in Photoshop 6.  In Photoshop they look nice and smooth, just like
I want them.  
However, when I save them as transparent gifs either through save for web or
the 
transparent gif wizard thing, the text comes out all jagged.  I've tried
every option I can think 
of to try and get this to come out smooth, but no luck.  I've also tried the
same in Illustrator, 
with the same results.  

Is it just not possible to have smooth text in a transparent gif (I find
this hard to believe)?  Is 
there something I'm missing?  Is there some graphic wiz out there that can
give me some 
pointers?
