navigating from a hide/show layer to a page and back again

I am designing a navigation page which uses mousedowns to hide/show layers.
Each layer has a clickable link to a different page.

The problem is with the back button;

After I select the layer with the mousebutton and click on the link it takes
me to the correct page.  If I want to go back, I click on the browser back
button.  This takes me back to the menu page, but the 1st layer is always
loaded.  I would like to be able to go back and have the last layer that was
visible showing.

For an example try navigating from
http://sr4.xoom.com/stuartanders/nav_test/menu_page.htm and then hit the
back button to see what I mean.
