Hmmm... having the same problem here.  I'm not used to the Caps staying on
after pressing the shift key.  I suffer from caps disease too.

it brought back memories -- i too worked on an old homegrown payroll
system, on a mainframe which had an operating system called pcp (primary
control program) that could only run one application at a time... so when
the payroll system needed the master tape mounted, everything came to a
halt, the lights stopped blinking, and the console printed the volser that
was needed... one time, the operator was going off shift and didn't see the
message, and the computer just sat there until morning, because the night
shift operator was sick... nobody got paid that week...

later, in the pc age, whenever i required tech support (not that often, but
i refused on principle to tackle windows or network problems), every time a
new tech support kid came around to my desk, it was always "hey, where's
your caps lock key?" and i'd pull open my desk drawer to show it to them...
i used to *hate* having my left pinkie (not the most dexterous of the
fingers) accidentally shift a whole line of text into caps while i wasn't
looking (i'm one of these old farts that has to look at the keyboard while
typing, so i never catch it right away)...  solution? pull the caps lock
key, i woulda thought that was obvious, but it always made the tech support
kids mutter and look at me strangely....  perhaps that is why, to this day,
i rarely use caps (never mind that all lower case just looks nicer)...
