Nested tables and images

Hi all, I have a problem with NN4 and IE4 that IE5 fixes (not much use
though as I need to get the script to work across the board!)

Basically I have a number of nested tables in the form of:

<table>
  <tr>
    <td>
      <table>
        <tr>
         <td>
          <img name="alpha"....

If I refer to alpha in JavaScript that is called from outside of the inner
table (say from <body onload> then the older browsers complain that the
image does not exist.

Any ideas very much appreciated.
