SWISH-E is *very* fast (since it uses an index instead of searching on the =
fly) although it requires some tweaking to get the indexing right. I =
believe it can be downloaded for free (although it needs to be installed =
on your server, and so may require permission/help from the site admins -- =
unless you are the site admin <g>).

The PERL search.pl or search.cgi script is not as fast (it searches in =
real time) but it is more exhaustive than SWISH-E (at least in my =
experience). The advantage of using a PERL script is that if SWISH-E isn't =
installed on your system, but PERL is, you don't need to change anything =
on a system level.

I believe the SWISH-E ("Simple Web Indexing System for Humans" IIRC) files =
are maintained at sunsite.berkeley.edu, while you can find PERL search =
scripts for free at Matt's CGI Archive.

Hope this helps.

Does anyone know of good software to add the ability to search within your
own website? I have a unix webserver and a nt4 intranet webserver that I
would need it on.=20

Thanks,
Jon
