The best one around, that I've seen, is Top Menu IV, which does all that =
you'll ever need. Fully customizable, and good god does it look sweet. =
Degrades very well, and even has benefits when viewed in IE (though won't =
mess up how it's viewed in NS).

I know there are lots of techniques out there for interactive menus
(where sub-pages pop out when you hover over a menu item).
Do you have personal favorites for ease of use, compact code,
cross-browser/platform compatibility, and nice degradation in older
browsers?
I'm looking for a vertical menu along the left side of the screen,
preferably text-based.
