With all due respect Samantha,

I do not intend on holding a prospective client, or any potential client,
hostage, because they chose someone else after I did some extra work to
impress them. It simply isn't responsible, respectable nor professional.

A small business person learned a lesson the hard way. It happens. Since
when is experience free?

BTW ... as I mentioned, what cost needs to be recovered? The registration
of the domain? ... c'mon, chump-change

The cost of the development? From what I read, the developer decided to
create the 20 or so pages, not the potential client ... my understanding is
that the client asked for a temporary presence ... how hard and time
consuming is that? It's business. Had the contract been won, the recovery
would have been imminent ... since the contract was lost, the loss should
have been only minimal.

There is always going to be that element of risk ... it's the nature of the
beast. Not all clients are going to be drinking buddies either ... nor are
they all going to be the epitome of professionalism.

Additionally, the costs involved to try and prove the "verbal agreement"
theory is much more substantial than the development of 20 pages.
