INFO: <Entire List> RE: Iomega Zip drive

Ladies and Gentlemen,

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Chuck McGee, Jr. and I am
the List Guide for the Theory List.

The above referenced subject is not a valid topic for discussion on the
Theory List.

The Theory Charter, located at:
http://www.hwg.org/lists/hwg-theory/

specifically states, "This list {Theory} is used by the HTML Writers Guild
to discuss the theories behind web development. Its charter includes the
issues of why/why not and when website components are used. Questions
pertaining to how things are accomplished are not appropriate."

I must remind you ... the Guild Mailing Lists are not moderated ... but
rather an open forum for members to discuss on-topic, according to the
Charters, issues relating to that particular list.  It is the
responsibility of the members to apply good judgement to the posts they
send.  Even though the off-topic discussion made it to the list, we ask
that all members decide whether or not it belongs on the list.  If no, then
it may be more appropriate to send to the original author privately should
you wish to comment.

This is not a berating post ... on the contrary ... if I were not to bring
this issue to the list as a List Guide, then we could feasibly end up
discussing anything and that would defeat the purpose of defined,
topic-oriented lists.  A free-for-all if you will.

I know that the traffic of late has been sparse, at best ... I only ask
that decisions be made prior to sending posts to the list ... is it
relevant to the list? ... if not, please do not send to the public, but
rather ... discuss it in private for the benefit of the other members that
have joined this list not for open discusssion ... but for discussions of
Theory.
