I don't think imposing a model of a contest or sporting game is
helpful here. If one works within the world of a self-contained
toy, nothing beats Flash, primarily because of the vectors. OTOH,=20
general-purpose function at Web sites cries for a unified solution.
That's Java. There's no reason why Flash and Java can't coexist.
Infoseek's work at go.com is a great example: Check out the main
Disney site or, if you're subscribed, check out Disney's Club Blast.
Almost all of their games and toys are Flash-based, but they use Java
heavily to put it all together. And, of course, they are _very_=20
sensitive to the capabilities of the client's browser: Their pages
dumb down very nicely.
Yet, even Java and Flash on their own don't do everything. For
Disney's atomic clock page (

they need the Cosmo VRML player as well.
