best explanation is that they are simple declaring a document type....which=
has bearing on validation, but as far as I have ever heard, nothing to do =
with search engine positioning.
Make sure to look at meta tags like keywords, description....the title, =
the repitition of keywords in the document itself.
Hopefully your client will learn search engines are an inexact science at =
best! (It may allow you to keep some hair!)

Hi All,
I have a client who has become obseessed with positioning on search
engines. In looking at the Document Source, several pages have the
following at the very top of the html document.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML//EN">
Can anyone tell me what this means?
Thanks
