Yes, in fact I am doing precisely the same thing. In case you don't know,
XALAN is now 1.1 and they have fixed some bugs.
For anyone interested, XMLSPY by Altova(.com) is a fairly decent IDE for
developing XSLT stuff. You can have it point to the XSLT processor of
choice, or you can download XMLSPY compatible XSLT translators and choose
between them. Very neat.
