Paul,

I used to use one of the Archnophilia 4.0 builds, and I was able to perform
a search and replace across several files.  Any files that you want searched
will need to be open though.  So if you have many files to operate on and
not a ton of memory, it could be a problem.  In that case, I guess you could
do it repeatedly with smaller groups of files.  I always wondered if other
programs' search and replace functions worked the same way.  It would be
nice if you could just designate the files and not open them.
