Nice work Jim! Thank you for sharing your efforts with the rest of us.

I agree with Howard that the monitor size has nothing to with the rendering
of a webpage from the standpoint of its layout. Clarity may change
depending on the quality of the monitor and the user's eyes, but the layout
will be identical.

As far as testing at different monitor resolutions, I recently began using a
FREE editor called 1st Page 2000 which I found out about through this list.
As I use it, I'm beginning to like it more and more. One of its powerful
features is its built in preview mode which allows you to instantly view the
page at different resolutions. It has made all the old clunky ways I was
resolution testing obsolete. They are in the midst of developing a new
version and have taken the current version off their website. Why, I don't
know, but you can still download it from Tucows.

As for my take on the statistics:

>From Jim's set of data, as others have pointed out, one can conclude that
800x600 is now the most popular resolution. However, the data also shows
that almost 25% of the users still use 640x480! That's still a significant
percentage and IMO shouldn't be ignored. Until 640x480 usage drops BELOW
10%, it should be considered the lowest common denominator to design for.
