Lead Engineer

Philips Multimedia Center, The Philips Digital Entertainment Group, Philips
eCommerce, Philips Research and Philips Design have created a virtual team to
work on the conceptual evolution of SmartConnect.  SmartConnect, will be a
device that can be personalized, provide enhanced features, jointly developed
with Best in Breed third parties, be tailored by context of use, by device
characteristics, and by user needs.

As a key player in the development of SmartConnect, we are currently looking
for a Lead Engineer who will be responsible for overall system design and
development of SmartConnect. The Lead Engineer will work closely with the
SmartConnect Management team to develop strategy and roadmaps for
SmartConnect.

The successful candidate will focus on:

Designing enhancements to existing software and define overall architecture
for SmartConnect services

Leading the development team to ensure successful delivery of services on
agreed-to schedules

Defining deliverables and schedules in conjunction with the Product Manager,
and defining requirements and deliverables for third-party sites to integrate
their offerings with SmartConnect

Working with researchers from Philips Research on defining and prototyping
future enhancements to the SmartConnect services


We'd like to see:

A BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.

An individual who is an expert on various emerging technologies in the field
of Internet services

The demonstrated ability to define and deliver high-quality, high-volume
Web-related products, including understanding of issues surrounding
scalability, system architecture, load balancing, application performance
tuning and troubleshooting, and experience with multi-site development

Demonstrated project management experience and a minimum of 3 years of
supervisory experience

Solid UNIX system development experience (5+ years), including strong C/C++
and PERL development experience

Web application development experience, including CGI and server APIs.

Familiarity with security concepts and issues, especially as relates to
submission and storage of sensitive data

Familiarity with software and web service testing methodologies

Database development and design experience a plus

Note: Some travel required (10-15%)
