Well now, I'm running NT4 and I never need a reboot when changing any of my
resolution, color depth settings...I have found that that is video card
specific-some require it, some don't.

As far as the network profiles:

I have setups for 5 ISP's and my work #..all have different settings
(network) all work with one click of a shortcut button.

As a developer for apps on NT, most of the reboots that NT makes are not
necessary, just recommended. Most apps will work just fine without it. It's
something to do to be on the safe side, but my point is-those main points
you make that make Mac OS better are in NT.

Hi all,

The software that I use to switch my monitors resolution, bit depth, or even
which monitor to put my main desktop on is MacOS 8.5. None of which requires
a reboot.

I don't mean to be rude to the people that started this thread, but since
the world is full of mis-information about the "Other OS" I just had to
reply.

Another added benefit of MacOS 8.5 that most people don't know is that MacOS
8.5 can handle Network Profiles. This is a very nice feature(I refuse to do
without it) for those of us that do internet design. For instance, say you
have two different ISPs that you need to have access to, and they have
different network settings, such as, DNS numbers, or maybe one has a static
IP and the other dynamic. I can switch between different network settings
with two clicks(1 to open a menu and 1 to switch settings), and it takes
less than a second for the change to be made, then I dial. No reboot, no
hassles. Welcome to MacOS.

And no, I'm not an Apple employee, just a user that is tired of hearing all
of the mis-information that is going around about the best consumer OS on
the market today(BAR NONE!).
