And in the 821st RFC, Postel created the SMTP and he saw that it was good.
And it could be used by any TCP/IP program, yay even Telnet verily,
connecting to the port two score and five (25).

And in its name the simpleness of mail transport using this protocol was
made manifest. And all the people of the world could connect to an SMTP
server and give a mail message the breath of life without their face averted
and with pride in their hearts.

But too much pride caused some to be blind and become idoloters to the NT
and the Linux. And the protocol was displeased because people forgot him,
saying "The protocol is dead. Third-party software gives us all we desire.
Let us turn from the protocol and become lazy."

And it came to pass that Joshua, who is Jesus in the Greek tongue, came to
show those who had sinned and forgotten about the protocol that the protocol
was god and the protocol could be accessed without the vileness of the
priests of Apps and ISVs.

And Joshua said that that Perl, one of the languages of the chosen people,
was perfect for asking the protocol to allow communication with the SMTP
server, commanding "HELO" for the base services. But further enlightenment
was to follow in RFC 1869 for blessed are those who say "EHLO" for they
shall inherit the extended services.

And for them to prove their faith and worth, Joshua showed them the word of
the protocol and it was Internet Standard 0010 and it was written upon the
http://www.cis.ohio-state.edu/htbin/rfc/rfc1869.html and other places for
all to see.
