I, too, recommend WS_FTP as the way to go.  The price of it is well worth 
its value, in more ways than one.

While there are a number of freeware FTP programs (a Google search says 
so), one must be careful just how "free" they really are.  Some contain 
embedded ads, meaning they may track your user habits.  Others may actually 
contain spyware components where you somehow end up on mailing lists.

I would definitely shy away from CuteFTP, and all of its versions, aliases 
and the like.

CuteFTP has been accused of being spyware, even with registered 
versions.  While they say they have apparently have changed their ways, a 
look on their privacy page indicates they still are collecting personal 
information when you install the software (see 
http://www.cuteftp.com/company/privacy.shtml).   I have a real problem with 
any software vendor that does this, especially under a veiled excuse they 
do this to help curtail privacy.  One would think it would be better to 
build a better product than spy on users of that product, regardless of how 
they acquired it.

It's up to you.  Personally, the purchase of a professional product which 
does not resort to installing ulterior motive programming is the way to go.
