Setting up own virtual server

Dear List,
I hope this is not too far off topic.
I have Win98 and I am to install Linux in the free disc space I have on my
Hard Drive. This will enable me to have a dual boot into either Linux or
Win98. I have some Apache server software. The question is - Can I install
the Apache through Linux and then use this as a virtual server for checking
my CGI scripts - all from the same machine or  do I need a separate machine
with Linux and Apache installed ?
If this is way off topic does anyone know of a more appropriate list.
