Question about database driven sites

I do not have any current experience with database driven sites, but my
company has been approached by a company that needs to have their site set
up in this manner.

I have been asked to look into this with Dreamweaver or GoLive as the
program to use.  Can anyone point me in a direction to begin and/or provide
a list of pros and cons?
