My preference is to make the address the link so that a readable email
address will be automatically included if the page is printed.

My reason is that I keep running into people who prefer to print webpages
rather than read them onscreen  (bad eyeglasses, limited time at the
computer, super-cheap paper--whatever), and if the address is 'hidden' in
the code, they may find it harder to contact the site-owner.  For the same
reason, I usually try to include the base url for the site somewhere on each
page so that they can make their way back more easily.

It is, after all, about the viewer's convenience.
