E-Card as HTML e-mail?

Hello everybody,
Many people are for and many are against HTML mails.

As I understand it, HTML e-mail uses more computing power and the mails
are larger in size, but many people want to get e-cards directly to
their e-mail box, rather than go to an URL and pick it up. This way
recipents could leave in their archives.

My First Question: What are things speaking for and against HTML mail?

My Second Question: Would it be ethical to make a service which would
send e-cards an HTML mail?

I'd like to get everybodys opinion out there... whether on or off-list.
