Well she just might have a point :-). Most of the big search engines
(Altavista, Yahoo) have UK versions, and these get used regularly over here.
There are also specific UK ones, though I don't know how much these get used
(I do most of my searching through Altavista.com unless I am looking for
something specifically UK).

Regarding the UK extension, a lot of people here *do* look for that if they
are going to buy something over the net, unless it is a big company. Even
then, if people like Amazon have a .co.uk why shouldn't she?

I bet you'd be surprised to find out how many US citizens would be more
likely to buy from a .com than a .co.uk given the same choice.

So yes, it is "the world wide web" but most ordinary people are still pretty
parochial. We on this list are not "average" surfers.
