Paypal.com does this quite well for simple items. You are not required to
have a merchant account. If you have a bank account and a credit card its
fast and painless to sign up. It's also very affordable.
After you have signed up, you go to the sell area and select shopping cart.
Then you fill out some simple info on your product and it gives you the
cut-and-paste code for your webpage. Paypal uses a secure server and is the
largest payee service of its type on the net.
When a customer buys, you get an email telling you to ship the product and
the money is placed in your Paypal account.
Paypal's suitable for simple "buy me" buttons only. If you need more than
that like color and size drop downs and radio buttons for accessories, you
will need to use someone elses software to work with paypal. Coolcart.com
offers a great cart that can dovetail with Paypal nicely.
