Seriously: simply explain that a web site is mostly a computer application
(or collection thereof), and that computers *need* organization to survive.
Then, list out the steps, components, materials and timeline for the new
site. Make each part clear. If he contracts you, he is buying what is on
this list (agreement, contract, ultimatum), and nothing else unless you
allow it as an addendum.
The list should specify colors, themes, CGI software, HTML doctype, number
and location of HTML documents, number and location of non-HTML supporting
documents, forms, disposition of form results, etc, etc...
Then, if he agrees, proceed to build his site by the list. Its less a "do
it my way" approach than a way to get him to think his plans through before
starting.
