For more information on the future of .org see http://www.handsoffmy.org/
There is a proposal by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers) to take back .org names and use them exclusively for non-profit
organizations. Hands Off My .ORG has tons of information about this
situation and what can be done to prevent it from happening.

Subject: new domain names
: I was trying to find out more about the new domain names and I was
wondering
: what the significance of the .info was supposed to be. Does anyone really
: take these dot names seriously any more? Everyone is a ".com" even if
they
: aren't a commercial venture. Lots of ".nets" are not in the business and
: ".org" has been used by individuals who can't get the ".com" they are
: seeking. What's up with this stuff? Should I worry about it?
:
: I want to get a domain and have been agonizing over this minutiae as if it
: was important, but some folks tell me I shouldn't. What's the group
think?
