Because it is quite possible, if it hasn't happened already.

Your best bet seems to do your homework before *any* original work gets
published, or is made available to anyone other than the creator.  Get =
an
understanding of your own country's copyright laws, especially if they =
have
been amended in light of the Internet and electronic media (such as the =
Digital
Millennium Copyright Act for USA copyright issues).  There are quite a =
few
copyright interpretation and legal websites out there to do some basic =
reading.
Weigh up the veracity of the sites while you are at it - a copyright =
site
sitting on a university law school server, legal firm, government =
copyright
server and/or public legal site, has more credence than a site using a =
free
server, or private domain name (Fred Bloggs Website - "We Specialize In
Everything - If It's On The Web, We Know It!"  Yeah, right.).

Finally, if you are *really* concerned, see a lawyer, especially someone =
versed
in copyright law.

In the case of the original poster to this list on the subject, IMHNLO, =
it
looks like the horse has already bolted from the barn and recourse on =
their
specific issue may be a lost cause. :)
