One might rationalize that you only have to be able to spell as well as your
customer, but if your pushing a company or product line on the Internet,
poor spelling could be a serious turn-off to potential clients/customers.

The harsh reality is that you cannot police yourself when it comes to
spelling.  If it were possible then publishing companies would not need
assistant editors.  When we read over our own material, we tend to make the
same mistakes again and again.  Spell checkers are fallible, or at least
only as good as the user.

Even worse than poor spelling is writing that may appear correct,  yet
conveys no useful information.  Compound that with a navigation system of
links with useless terminology and grammar that would get you bounced back
to the fifth grade.

These problems all go hand in hand.  This is why I charge a lot more for a
facelift, than a new website.
