More dots in my url

When I own a url like "www.mycompany.com" do I also own URLs like
"otherwords.mycompany.com"? How do I get to use these names which have extra
words and dots? Must I register them with Network Solutions? Or do I just
begin using them? And how do I control where they point to? Does my ISP
control it?
