It is done with JavaScript. The company I work for (camalott.com, and
ISP) recently redid the home page (first major update since 1998). One
of the major changes was that instead of having links on the page we
created the same links using JavaScript where when you put your mouse
over the main link down drops that menu.

Customers hate it. They can't remember where links are (they are all in
drop down menu's) the control of putting the mouse exactly positioned so
the drop down works seems to be beyond some people (motor control
skills) and the like.

Actually the drop down menus are the number two complaint. By far the
number one complaint is that we removed the friendly dragon (Malathar)
logo on the front page.

I was beginning to come over to using these sort of menus until I heard
what this feedback.

I have seen sites (almost always professionally
done) which, when the cursor is placed
over links (usually menu options) a small pop-up
window appears. This small window usually
displays something along the line of a sub menu,
or possibly a description of what is available if
that main menu option is selected.

How do thay do that?? I assume it's some sort
of JavaScript thing but am not sure.
