I'd tend to disagree. It very much depends what you are trying to
achieve of course but I would strongly dispute that Photoshop (or
similar applications such as Painter from Metacreations) are 'too
much' for web graphics. Ok, so you can do nice stuff in PSP, Fireworks
and other software, but if you want to make a truly sophisticated web
interface or logo you'll find that Photoshop or Painter are not
overkill. I use them all the time and don't know where I'd be without
them. They are invaluable. I have tried using PSP and Fireworks but
they are too lightweight in comparison. BUT, if you don't want to do
anything too sophisticated then Fireworks or PSP will do well, for a
lot less money (especially PSP). Before we end up with a flame war, I
am NOT knocking PSP and Fireworks. They are good at what they do.
But as we say in the UK here: "horses for courses". It all depends on
what your goal is. There are things you can do in Photoshop and Painter
you just can't do in anything else.
