I'm puzzled by this as well.
I would think that as "web language" mutates and rejuvenates DTD's would
actually *increase* in importance.
Look at the issue we were discussing just last night. Values, and whether
we should or should not be quoting them *all* now.
It would seem to me that if a language was instituted that *required* the
quoting of values and browsers were created to interpret that language,
that when those browsers encountered legacy pages (say 3.2 strict) it would
choke and possibly croak.
A Language specific DTD (as they have always been) included in each
document could eliminate that problem completely.
Anyone got an opinion or maybe some insight on this?
